- This work is based on a pattern designed by Sasho Janevski titled 'Life'. The moment I first saw it I was struck by the poignancy of the pattern's subject matter- the lifetime of a couple deep in love in contrast to the lifetime of their favorite tree. It's simultaneously happy and sad, but always beautiful.
- "Life" is my attempt at capturing the beauty of the pattern as a scroll saw 'fretwork' cutting. It's meticulously and patiently done by hand- no laser cutter, CNC machine, or robotic woodworkers involved. This work is all about humanity, both in subject matter and in craftsmanship.
- The pattern is cut into a piece of white oak plywood, then mounted on top of another piece of white oak plywood that was stained with India ink.
- Instead of glass, I opted for shatter-proof, durable acrylic to protect the work after framed. The work is not designed to be disassembled, so the acrylic cannot be replaced with glass.
- The frame is handcrafted from laminated Honduran mahogany, maple, and black walnut.
- The back of the work features the Ohio Wood Art logo and maker's mark, as well as details about the pattern.
- Hanging hardware is preinstalled for your convenience.
