This work is based on a pattern designed by Sasho Janevski titled 'Life'. The moment I first saw it I was struck by the poignancy of the pattern's subject matter- the lifetime of a couple deep in love in contrast to the lifetime of their favorite tree.  It's simultaneously happy and sad, but always beautiful.
"Life" is my attempt at capturing the beauty of the pattern as a scroll saw 'fretwork' cutting. It's meticulously and patiently done by hand- no laser cutter, CNC machine, or robotic woodworkers involved. This work is all about humanity, both in subject matter and in craftsmanship.
The pattern is cut into a piece of white oak plywood, then mounted on top of another piece of white oak plywood that was stained with India ink.
Instead of glass, I opted for shatter-proof, durable acrylic to protect the work after framed. The work is not designed to be disassembled, so the acrylic cannot be replaced with glass.
The frame is handcrafted from laminated Honduran mahogany, maple, and black walnut.
The back of the work features the Ohio Wood Art logo and maker's mark, as well as details about the pattern.
Hanging hardware is preinstalled for your convenience.
