Ted Scherer sits among
his art in his workshop
in Columbus, Ohio.

        Ted Scherer began woodworking more than 25 years ago.  His early pieces included cutting boards and children's rocking chairs, but he quickly moved into detailed inlay work and intricate furniture.  In 1995, he picked up his first chainsaw after seeing another chainsaw artist carving at a local store.  Within a matter of weeks, Scherer was designing bears, eagles, wolves, rams and a variety of storybook characters. 
   

"I can just visualize images in a piece of wood," Scherer said. 

    His current projects include lighthouses that actually light up and seven famous little men (as part of a children's collection). 

    His work has been sold to such clients as Rocky Boots, Timken, the Ohio Veterans Home, Indian Mound State Park and a custom design for a former Cleveland Brown.   You can see him in person at the following shows:

Ted creates on-sight carvings at a home in Bucyrus.  An in-ground lighthouse and an owl were the projects for the day.
